About Tax Rates, Levies, Taxing Bodies, and Tax Bills
Taxes are determined by spending. Even though your assessment may go down, it does not necessarily translate to a lower tax bill if the taxing bodies' levies go up. The charts and graphs presented here are intended to graphically illustrate the trends for various taxing authorities and thus the direction local taxes are currently going.
- See the tax extension table for details on increases/decreases in tax dollars for various taxing entities from year to year and over time; it illustrates the spending habits of levying bodies.
- We have also prepared graphic representations of the distribution of spending by taxing authority per $100; click to see graphs for Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, North Chicago, and unincorporated Shields Township.
