Shields Township Food Pantry Donations Soar

Hoping that hunger takes a holiday, the Shields Township Food Pantry has received unprecedented contributions in the past few weeks. “As fast as the volunteers stock the shelves, the food is distributed so these donations are critical,” said Gale Strenger Wayne, supervisor.

In the past few weeks, the following donations have come into the township:

• The Lake Bluff Barbeque Society (otherwise known as RibFest) in conjunction with Lake Bluff Scout Troop 41, generously donated the $646 received from the votes for the Peoples’ Choice Award
• The Moe Knesley family organized a community food drive netting 35 boxes in donations
• Lake Bluff Elementary School District 65 donated a cargo van of foodstuffs as well as five boxes of candy
• Lenny Morgan of Kaiser Pizza in Gurnee and Mundelein presented a van loaded with food donations
• Lake Forest High School freshman and sophomore study hall classes gave more than 3000 cans and food
• Dan Rogers donated a chest freezer
• December 12 Julie Knesley is holding a raffle at James Tavern with the proceeds going to benefit the Shields Township Food Pantry

“Even during these difficult economic times, it’s rewarding that so many people are responding to the needs of their neighbors. It’s heartwarming to see this care and compassion, especially during the holidays,” noted Strenger Wayne.

The Shields Township Food Pantry is located in the township offices at 906 Muir Ave. and is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to all residents of Shields Township.
