Congratulations on owning a home in Shields Township!

As a homeowner, you may be entitled to some exemptions on your property taxes. In order to receive exemptions on your property in Shields Township, the property in question must be your primary residence and must be the only residence at which you are receiving exemptions. The Homeowner Exemptions that you, as a homeowner, may be entitled to includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  General Homestead Exemption - Lowers the equalized assessed value of the property by $6,000
  • The property must be your primary residence
  • The property must be the only residence at which you are receiving exemptions
  Senior Homestead Exemption 
  • Must be 65 years of age or older
  • The property must be your primary residence
  • May be claimed in addition to the General Homestead Exemption
  Senior Citizen’s Assessment Freeze
  • Must be 65 years of age or older
  • Must own the property as your principal residence for the past two January firsts
  • Have a total household income of $65,000 or less
